Now that I am in a Spanish-speaking country, those Spanish words come in handy especially counting words! I can’t imagine how I would understand the taxi drivers if I don’t know their counting numbers. It would be frustrating on both sides. Maybe if given a year to stay here, I will be able to speak Spanish!

Anyway, it’s funny I get the feeling of speaking in Japanese every time I’m in a non-speaking country.

When I talked to her the last time, Shaynna did ask me if we could go on a picnic somewhere. I sure would love to grant that to her. Aside from that, I have promised to buy her an inflatable mini pool. I sure wish to give her more outdoor playground equipments but I know that she and her cousin will be very delighted to have a mini pool. The two little girls at home love taking a dip so much.

Soon, I’ll be able to post a photo of those two little girls with the huge smile on their faces wearing their swimsuits on that mini pool. I’m so excited already!

I thought it might become like that one time when I was told to go to France then it got canceled. I waited for the confirmation from my boss while being really busy because Mexican customers are coming over to Singapore for a visit. Then last Saturday, I finally got the go signal but I still had doubts.

Now, here I am in the Sky Lounge waiting for the boarding time. Finally I am going to Mexico! But I have to go through Amsterdam first because it is only in Amsterdam or in Paris that Filipinos don’t need a transit visa.

Because of the stress I’ve been experiencing these past few days, I’ll definitely have a good rest in the plane later on.

I miss doing those blog memes so here it is, after 3 years, I think. Sadly, most of my blogger friends have stopped blogging so I cannot tag anyone anymore.

How old were you when you first travelled?
According to my parents, when I was less than a year old. But as far as I can remember, it was when I was 6 years old.

What is your favourite form of travelling: car, bus, train, or plane?
By train. My longest train ride was from Osaka to Nagoya which was 3~4 hours. I definitely have to try longer train ride in Japan (from Kyushu to Hokkaido), Europe, and China.

Where did you go on your first road trip?
Road trip with family when I was a teenager, to our relatives in Zamboanga del Sur.

Where did you go on your first bus ride?
To Cagayan de Oro City which is about 3 hours from my hometown.

Where did you go on your first train ride?
My first train ride was in Manila, to the station closest to the Rizal Park.

Where did you go on your first plane ride?
When I was 14 years old, to Manila with my family.

Motion sickness? Treatment of choice?
Rarely. But I always bring aromatic medicated oil, particularly White Flower.

Where would you like to go that you haven’t been?
My list is too long. Can I say everywhere except the places I’ve already set foot on? (Paris, Lisbon, Sydney and Malaysia).
Also these places in my own country which I haven’t been to: Boracay, Palawan, Camiguin, Davao, Ilocos, Batanes

Where would you like to go back to?
Sydney and other parts of France (I was only able to visit Paris).

Travelling alone or with someone?
Travelling alone is just too lonely and it’s hard to get a photo of yourself! So I prefer to travel with someone. But travelling with 3 more can be hard as well.

Your ultimate travelling dream?
Europe by train and cruise ship.

I still remember being dragged by my lola to all the church services she attended to during Holy Week. I was with her when she prepared all those coconut leaves crucifixes for Palm Sundays, although I never learned how to make those. I was with her at the choir benches during The Last Supper masses. On Good Friday morning, I helped her prepare binignit (warm root crop and fruit stew). In the afternoon, I was with her participating in the pabasa.

When she went to live with my aunt in Cebu, those traditions stayed with us. If we don’t participate in the pabasa, then we turn on our radio to hear it. I grew up expecting to see The Ten Commandments or old Filipino movies or dramas showcasing moral values on TV from Holy Thursday to Black Saturday. We strictly didn’t eat red meat and no upbeat music can be heard anywhere. It was either our neighbors were also listening to the pabasa, or just deafening silence. I got to experience this until my college days as I didn’t take any summer class.

Then I went to Japan where the Holy Week is just like any ordinary week. Although I tried to do abstinence and more time for prayer and meditation.

When I came to Singapore, I was a bit surprised that there are many Catholic Churches and Good Friday is a public holiday! I managed to attend church services on Holy Week, but this year, I feel that I failed. For one, I just ate red meat because it’s what I only have in the ref and I am too lazy to go out.

I am not saying that every Catholic has to do what my grandmother usually does on Holy Week. I respect each person’s beliefs. But this was how I was brought up and I feel uneasy if I don’t follow what I used to do. It’s just hard if you are trying to do it all alone.

Maybe I should go home during the Holy Week next year.

It was not hard finding the hotel. We just took the MRT from the drop-off point, then got off at Medan Tuanku station. The hotel was about a block away from the station.

Before we went out, I decided to take a shower first. Yes, the bathroom was old but the water was warm enough.

I was delighted that the hotel provides hair dryer. It was quite old but I tried it anyway. A few seconds after I turned it on, smoke came out of it. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn’t just stop. I couldn’t pull out the plug either because it was connected directly to the power source! A few seconds later, there was a small fire in its motor! I wanted to turn off the main switch of the room but I couldn’t put the dryer down because the room was carpeted! My roommate was taking a shower so she couldn’t hear me when I called her out. Thankfully, our friend from the next bedroom came in so I asked him to turn off the main switch for me.

I maintained my calm during the ordeal but it left me shaking with fear thinking what would have happened if I wasn’t able to turn it off!

The room was filled with smoke and the smell of burnt plastic. It was surprising the fire alarm didn’t go off. I reported the incident to the receptionist and I was told that they will send someone to fix it. Nobody came so we just left for sightseeing, trusting that they will fix it. My roommate had to go through shower without any lights on!

When we came back, we were told that the problem had been fixed. But then I heard the circuit breaker trip when I turned on the room’s main switch. Later we were informed that it also caused tripping of circuit breakers in other rooms! There was no way to fix the problem quickly so we were transferred to another room.

It was an unforgettable experience, indeed! At that time, I told myself to never book a room at Prescott Inn again!.

In our company, we have a different theme for each year. In 2009, it was “A blast from the past“, 2010 was “Shanghai Night” and last year was “Masquerade“. This year, it’s “Star Awards Night“!

I strongly feel like wearing a one-shoulder dress to the big night but I have to do something about my arms. It is impossible to become as thin as these models. But I don’t want my arms to look too fat in the photos. The party will be on May 18th so I have a month to do something about it. Wish me luck!
