I didn’t know about the numbers

I love going to Ikea and Courts and I’m glad that these two huge stores are just a few bus stops away from my place. One time, I had to get a cab as I bought some stuff that I had to send to Philippines. The driver was so friendly and he began asking me what I managed to buy. I gladly told him that the bed sheets were on sale. Then he asked me about the number of the bed sheets and I didn’t have any idea what he was talking about. He told me that the higher-numbered the bed sheet is, the more comfortable it is. Well, I have not tried using any Luxury bed linens so I would not know how it would feel like. What is important is the cheaper it is, then the better. That’s why I often go window shopping to know if there’s a sale going on or not. So far, all the bed linens that I have are comfortable. But I bet the expensive ones feel a lot better.

I’m not a hoarder

I love pretty boxes and tin cans. Chocolates and cookies tin cans are my favorites that sometimes I buy these stuff because of the container. Then I give away the contents. In the office, some people bring chocolates and cookies when they go back to work from vacation and sometimes I can’t hold myself back from asking for the box. If only I knew someone who smoke cigars, I would definitely ask for the box! I have accumulated some favorites but I couldn’t let go of them, nor can I get myself to use them as gift boxes. And no, I’m not yet a hoarder. ;)

Dreaming of Luxury at home

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think all apartment units in Japan have ofuro (???) or bathtubs. I do like taking hot baths but I never got lucky with the tub of that apartment in Osaka. My friends took advantage of their tubs while my housemates and I avoided using ours. It looked like a stainless deep well and it looked so old! Anyway, if I own a house in the future, I would like to have a bathtub in the master’s bedroom. A 5-foot whirlpool would be more than a luxury since I can’t even afford to buy whirlpool faucets!

I haven’t mentioned this previously but I kind of miss the bathtubs in Japan because bathrooms of the HDB units here in Singapore don’t have tubs. It would have been a lot better if the shower and toilet are separate because I really hate stepping on wet floor every time I brush my teeth.

I love their headdresses!

A friend is getting married early next year. So when there’s a Wedding Fair at the Singapore Expo, we went there just to collect ideas, and I’m glad I took my camera with me because these beautiful ladies with their beautiful headdresses came out and posed for everyone who took their photos!

More of Jude Deveraux

I came across the phrase Jones Act lawyer on the internet and I couldn’t help but think about MAW Law Agency. One of the characters of Jude Deveraux’s “Lavender Morning” is one of its owners. Yeah, I’m such a hopeless romantic. Is there really a guy out there like Luke (again, a character in the book)? I don’t know if it’s just me but it takes a great effort to get my mind off the books that I read. It’s like I am one of the characters, too.

Anyway, Jude Deveraux has always been one of my favorite authors. I love her stories and her sense of humor. When I was still a high school student, I spent my allowance on novel rentals. I’ve always wanted to collect all of her books. Lately, I got more of her books from the MPH Book Sale. I bought paperback copies for just 5SGD, without GST! Five paperbacks would only cost 20SGD! Normally, a book cost 17SGD!

There’s another MPH Book Sale next week and I’m definitely going back there. I hope I can dig in more of Jude Deveraux’s books.

Downpayment ++

My dream car….

Ever since I was given a ride by a friend when I was 7, I’ve started dreaming of owning a car. Up to now, beautiful cars could make me take a second look, well who wouldn’t? But I guess for now, my Toyota Land Cruiser Prado would just remain my wallpaper.

I’ve wanted to buy one for Shaynna because the dusty road to school often gives her flu. Tried out the financial calculators at the web site of car dealers in the Philippines but even the downpayment for an Avanza is really too huge for me. Most of the time, they include three years car insurance rate, 3 years LTO registration fee, chattel mortgage, etc., almost doubling the lowest downpayment they require! I’ll try to find cheap cars that are still in good condition but there are only a handful of used car dealers in my hometown. If only I could win the lottery…

A donut and a key

It was in Japan when I first saw one of these donut key holders. I gave it to Shaynna when I went home last year. So when I found a stall here in Singapore selling them, I got myself one….

Mouth-watering, eh?

Dreams

Ten years since I got out of the university, yet I still have nothing to call something my own. Being the family’s sole breadwinner is no joke at all. I always have my hands full, putting mysef last. But I know someday that I will have those things that I often look so dreamily in the internet. One of those “things” is a real-estate property. A condominium unit in a big city and a house with a huge lawn close to my hometown would be great! My parents preferred old-looking furniture, with all the flower engravings on it but I prefer to fill my dream house with comfortable and contemporary furniture. White tiles with earth-colored tapestries should go well together. Decorating her own house is every woman’s dream, I suppose.

Trying out Gmarket

I often see Gmarket banners in my Yahoo Mail pages. So I visit it often. Only a few gadgets are sold there, but it is flooded with clothes, bags, perfumes, and other accessories. The prizes are low too. Now, this presents me an option to try wholesale apparel for my Christmas gifts this year! After all, I do have dozens of relatives living close by. Kidding. I still don’t have the capacity to play Santa to everyone. Since it is still the Great Singapore Sale, they also have big discounts going on.

I’ve been eyeing this bag organizer because I badly needed one. Well, I guess ladies do need one as we change bags from time to time. Previously, it was sold at 10SGD or higher and shipping cost is not free unless you buy a certain number of items. When I visited that page again, it went down to 4SGD! The seller is just from Singapore, so I only had to pay 1SGD extra for shipping fee. Two work days later, I now have my organizer. Next time, maybe I’ll try buying some of those cute clothes from Korea for my little Shaynna.

Not my bestfriend

Diamond is a woman’s best friend. But not in my case because I can’t afford certified diamonds! Kidding aside, I’m not really into jewelries. I don’t wear a single ring nor a pair of earrings. I don’t like wearing bracelets, but I love wearing necklaces (am I contradicting myself here?).
The photo on the right shows all my necklaces. Let’s keep this a secret between us, OK? Almost all of these cost only about S$10. Some of you may have noticed two of these in an Avon brochure. The one in the middle is the most expensive one: a Swarovski! It’s my favorite not only because of its price but it was given to me as a farewell gift from my friends in Japan.

Addicted to 3D Movies

At first, I was not really keen on watching 3D movies because is uncomfortable putting that 3D goggles on top of my eyeglasses! Yeah, yeah. I need to buy contact lenses but only when I go home to the Philippines where it is cheaper. I remember taking that Spider Man ride at the Universal Studios in Japan. I didn’t have contacts on and I was afraid to lose the goggles if I put it on top of my eyeglasses. The images were too blurry, so it was like 50% off the fun.

Anyway, when I heard about the Avatar movie being show in 3D, I just couldn’t let the opportunity pass. It was the first 3D movie that I’ve ever watched. The 3D effects good but not so impressive but I loved the storyline. Then the movie “How to train your dragon” came and its storyline and 3D effects rocked! But it just raised my expectations for the movie “The Clash of the Titans” in 3D, which was a disappointment. Nevertheless, I still look forward to watching Puss in boots again in the upcoming Shrek movie in 3D! What made it more exciting is that I’ll most probably watch it together with my little angel, Shaynna. Better be good…

House stuff upgrade

Moving to a more beautiful apartment meant my stuff from the previous place would look out of place here. Previously, I bought my stuff mostly from the stores run by “uncles”, those stores close to the wet markets. Now, I have to buy something that are more presentable, door mats included. I’m glad that malls here have clearance sales. I have a broom that I use exclusively in my bedroom only. I downgraded the old one for common area usage and bought a new one as a replacement. Before, I can go on for a few weeks without replacing my empty air freshener. We were on the 11th floor so I only sweep my bedroom’s floor twice a week. Now, we’re still on a higher floor but I feel the need to use my broom twice a day because I don’t want to see fallen hair strands on the light-colored floor! In short, I needed stuff upgrade, and me becoming more of an OC.
