I have mentioned a thousand times that I prefer winter over summer. Better yet, autumn! But there is one thing that I don’t like in cold temperature: static shock. I have mentioned before that taking up a degree in Mechanical Engineering was my first option. When I was still a little girl, my father was working at a local chemical plant while trying to finish his Mechanical Engineering degree. I saw him working on his school projects and from my point of view, it was a lot fun. But he discouraged me from pushing through it and so I took up a Computer Engineering degree instead. Now, I’m glad I heeded his advice. I’m glad I’ve chosen to be a part of Information Technology. Though, I didn’t realize it while I was still trying to survive through college.
I started my IT career 7 years ago (it’s been a long time, huh). Most of my classmates in college were already hired before they even got their degree. The job offers were higher than the offers in non-IT field. Plus, those companies were the ones who sought out candidates by holding job fairs at our school. Well, I was one of those who got lucky (blessed, I might say) because my first career was with a big IT company and I was sent for training here in Japan for one year. The training was hard but fun. During that time, I’ve started to fall in love with what I do.
My career journey isn’t a walk in the park. Being in IT could be stressful at times and sometimes, we’re left with no other option but to stay in the office for more than 24 hours straight. But it really feels great when we successfully complete a project. It’s very exciting when I solve something that I thought was almost impossible. And, as IT is very broad and is very dynamic, an IT career is never boring. IT people seem to not run out of idea and so it is very important to keep abreast of those emerging and evolving technologies.
Other people may think that having longer work experience gives them the edge over those who are just starting their IT careers, but it’s not always the case. This is where IT certifications comes in. I’ve browsed through tons of job sites and most of the companies prefer those candidates who are certified. After all, companies prefer written proofs over what you’ve just written on your resume. Among the most common I encounter is the Cisco certification. I’ve been planning to take this one and as soon as I’m ready, I’ll take a go at it. If everything goes well, this certification will definitely make a bigger impact on my resume, then I’ll have more chances at getting a better job.
I enjoy blogging but it is more rewarding if I make money again from my blog. It’s been quite sometime since I did a paid post opportunity, not because I didn’t want to get paid. You have to get your hands dirty with little technical stuffs, have a headache deciding over which template to use from the hundreds of free themes, spend hours shuffling the widget locations, and last, but not the least, those paid post opportunities you signed up for.
In Smorty, if you have migrated to a new domain, you have to submit it for approval as a new blog. The same rules apply. In my case, I waited for a few days before they approved this new domain. Now, I could post reviews here, too!
I just hope more advertisers will revert to blog advertising. It is cheaper and really effective. Don’t you think so, too?
Lately, what little business-minded gene in me has been in its active state. I think I have mentioned before that my family (particularly on my father’s side), artistic gene has been passed from generation to generation. I have a handful of close relatives who know their way around painting, handicraft making, and even interior design, without even going to a design school!
I wish I could show you some photos of the works my late Uncle Victor did, or the very artistic and refreshing t-shirt and banner designs made by his daughter, or the indigenous and very amazing Christmas lanterns a cousin made. They have the talents, yet they don’t have to finances to make full use of these God-given gifts. It’s impossible to advertise, and the local customers is not much of a market.
Now that I am already familiar with what internet could do, I am thinking of ways to help them out. Yes, you got it right. I want to put up an online business which would require only a small capital. I already know how to pull the strings in making a website. Plus, there is no more need for me to have my own online shop developed as there are lots of ecommerce software available now. They are very
easy to setup, I don’t have to get my hands dirty in maintenance, and they don’t cost a lot! The only thing left for me to do now is to find that capital.
