I’m a Donkey

Got tagged by Beth of Rebokon.
Based on my birthday, a donkey represents me….
I’m supposed to be A very loyal and sweet person. Your loyalty can never be doubted. You are quite honest and sincere when it comes to your attitude towards working. You are a very simple person, indeed. Absolutely hassle free, humble, and down-to-earth! That explains the reason why your friends cling on to you. You have a good taste for clothes. If your wardrobe is not updated with what is trendy, you sure are depressed. Popular and easy-going. You have a little group of dignified friends, all of them being quality-personified.

If you want to know which animal represents you, click here. :)

Thursday Thirteen #13

I am an avid follower of HappySlip’s blog. Recently, she posted this vlog where she shared some “happy tips” and threw these questions:
  • What makes you happy?
  • What do you do to make others happy?

I wanted to make a vlog in response to HappySlip’s vlog, but I chickened out. So I’ll just list down my answers:
In no particular order, these things make me happy:

  1. When Shaynna’s in a good mood and voluntarily chats with me through Skype.
  2. When Shaynna’s in a good mood and plays with me through Yahoo Messenger.
  3. Daily chat with my family through Skype.
  4. Chat with my best friend.
  5. Daily chat with my flatmates and friends.
  6. My favorite songs
  7. Snail mails
  8. Comments in my blog!
  9. Messages left in my blog’s shout box.
  10. ice cream!
  11. Anime and movies
  12. Approved paid post
  13. Rare calls from friends who don’t have internet connection.

If I get over my timidity, I will post my answers to the second question next time. ;)
But then, I really try to make many (if not all) people happy in every thing that I do…

How about you? Who and/or what makes you happy?

exposé

Exposing more of me by a tag from Elaine:

Are you in a complicated love situation?
Yes, I think so. But maybe I’m the only one who’s making it complicated? mmmm…

Do you hate more than 3 people?
Yes. The number of corrupt government officials definitely exceeds that. But then hate is a strong word. I prefer “irritated”.

The last thing you drank?
Coffee with milk. It’s actually “Nescafe 3 in 1″ sent by my mother from the Philippines.

Favorite chocolate bar? Nestle crunch and Kit-kat white

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Too few for a lady, I guess.

Favorite genre of music? Alternative, Praise and Worship

Do you like beer? No. I don’t drink.

What are your favorite color(s)? Yellow and navy blue

Is anyone in love with you? I’m no longer sure.

Pepsi or Sprite? Coca cola!

How many video games do you own?
None. But I loved Super Mario way back in highschool. (waahhh I’m old)

Does look matters? I’d be lying if I say no. But it’s not on top of my list.

Are you too forgiving? I think so…

Do you own a gun? No. I’m scared of these things.

What did you do last night? The usual. Chat with family and friends.

Nicknames?
Shiera, Lynlyn, Inday.
But Lynlyn and Inday are exclusive for my family and relatives only, ok? ;)

Are you thinking about somebody right now? Yes

Are you happy with your life right now? Not really. But I’m trying?

Do you like your hair? No offense to my hair. But no.

Does anyone like you?
I have a bunch of friends, plus my family and relatives… so that’s a big yes.

Last thing you read? Oracle Relational Programming. I’m at work. hehe

Are you afraid of the dark? Only after watching a scary movie.

Have you ever stripped?
Yes, before taking a shower. Wait… did you mean the “unusual” way stripping?

Can you cook? Of course I can. But don’t ask if it’s delicious.

Money or Love?
I’m a hopeless romantic so I prefer love. If you love someone, you want the best for that person… so money would follow. Don’t you think so?

Do you enjoy scary movies? No. I prefer romantic comedy and anime.

When was the last time you said “i love you”?
Last night to my parents. It was Valentine’s Day…

I’m not tagging anyone. But if you like this one, please feel free to grab it. :)

1. Name one thing you do everyday.
* Chat with my family through Skype.

3. Name three things that remind you of your childhood.
* The board game: Millionaire’s Game

Christmas Tags, Oh Christmas Tags

I love doing memes, especially Christmas memes! So I grabbed this one
from Sandier Pastures:

What is your favorite Christmas gift?
A pillow or bolster with Tweety printed on it.

What is your best memory of Christmas?
When my father was still working in a company in Iligan City, we go to the company’s Christmas party. All of those parties were one of my happiest memories as a child. But I couldn’t forget that party when my parents gave me the tin tea set. I actually caught my mother wrapping it
and I thought she’s giving it to a goddaughter. My father also joined the Christmas Carol Contest that time. I was so proud watching him with his colleagues. I could still remember what they wore: red shirt and Santa hat.

Depending upon where you live, do you have a hot or cold Christmas?
Before coming to a place that has winter, I thought that Christmas in the Philippines is a bit cold! In my hometown, the temperature on December to January drops to 18-25C. Normally, we have 24-33C. I know it’s lame but it’s already enough for me to wear a jacket.

What do you prefer in a tree? Fake or real?
We never had a real tree so I couldn’t really tell. But I’d like to try having a real one in the future.

What is your favorite Carol?
“Christmas In Our Hearts” by Jose Marie Chan and his daughter.

What is your favorite Christmas Dinner?
Anything… as long we have the following: my mother’s spaghetti and macaroni, plus pork
liempo from Tita Fanny’s restaurant.

Do you wear a Santa hat at Christmas?
For the first time, I wore Santa hat during last year’s Christmas party with the Filipinos here in Osaka.

Have you ever seen Santa delivering gifts?
Yes, in the movies.

Lizeth tagged me to list down my “inaanak”. I must admit that this was a tough one…
1. Francis – I was 17 years old when he was baptized
2. Anique
3. Caloy
4. Chris’ daughter (sorry Chris, I forgot her name…)
5. My cousin’s son ( forgot the name again…)
6. Ate Mercy’s daughter (forgot the name again…)

My godchildren to be:
7. Keira Alexis, my younger brother’s new-born angel
8. Aday’s daughter (forgot the name!)

I have always been very, very poor at remembering names. I just hope the parents would remind me. Shamefully, I wasn’t able to attend even a single baptism of these angels.

What If?

This was a pre-Christmas tag from Rolando, then Sani just recently tagged me with it.

What are the 5 gifts you would buy for yourself this Christmas, if you had unlimited income?

Unlimited, you say? So here goes not just my Christmas wishes but these have been my dreams…

1.) Sponsor anyone’s education if he/she deserves it. Better yet, establish a good university and provide free education. I have many relatives in mind who dream of finishing college but due to financial constraint, they don’t go beyond high school, then marry at an early age. Sadly, this cycle has been going on for years and I want to make a difference.

2.) Establish a company and employ anyone deprived of chances to have a better life, regardless of their educational background. I would also offer opportunities to help them improve their skills and education.

3.) Settle the land issues of my relatives, divide the land accordingly, and construct apartments for them. But, I require them to pay me back, not for money reasons. I just want them to become better persons.

4.) World tour with my family.

5.) Host an international Bloggers’ Conference!

Desktop Showcase

Another fun tag! This “what’s on my desktop” tag came from Imagica.
To those who are not really into anime, that’s Naruto. He is one of my top-3 anime idols. Naruto of Naruto, Luffy of One Piece and Ichigo of Bleach take turns in gracing my desktop.

The right side is usually for the commonly-used applications – these are placed in folders, grouped according to their functionalities. While the left-side is for the commonly-accessed folders and files. My desktop’s usually cluttered. Good thing I recently did my weekly cleanup.

I’m not specifically tagging anyone. But if you’d like to show off your desktop, I’d be your first spectator!

A Battle and A Spiritual Journey

I was tagged by Rolando to post something about Breast Cancer Awareness last month. I couldn’t let this opportunity pass and invited a wonderful lady to share her story as a breast cancer survivor.

Ms. Enme Malanog is an aunt of two close friends, so I have heard so much about her. I only knew that she had breast cancer and didn’t know the whole story until I read what she sent me. As I read through, I was deeply touched by her courage, by her faith, by her life. I only placed here portions of what she wrote, but I encourage you to be touched and be inspired like me. Read her complete story HERE.

I was 46 then, successful in my career in a very prestigious, international (Swiss) company in Makati, surrounded with“big bosses with big hearts”and always with a plate filled with the daily routine assignments in a corporate set up. I have all the benefits you wish to have. HR team who kept on bugging me for our Annual Medical check up and yet passed on to my deaf ears until the time I was posted and moved on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to join our SGS Cambodia Liaison Office way back 2000.

Time flies! I enjoyed my job in Phnom Penh, the only place on earth with 28 holidays a year! It was September 24th 2003 – we traveled all the way to Vietnam for a long weekend Pchum Ben holiday. I had my confirmed appointment the next day at FV (Franco-Vietnamese) Hospital with Dr. Stephane Lager an OB Gyne, after I felt a lump on my left breast July that same year wherein months before I had two prolonged cough which was just ignored, frequent very disturbing numbness on my right arm which I thought an effect of daily long usage of my desktop.

That lump was later diagnosed as an Invasive Ductile Carcinoma (early stage II Breast Cancer).

The news went around globally to relatives and friends. E-mails kept pouring, sharing words of encouragements. Brigades of the most powerful prayers continue from grieving friends and family members who was shocked about my situation. Their words of comfort were never more appropriate than before. A moment to remember that when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk, we are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Remember each of us is a vital thread in other person’s tapestry, our lives are woven together for a reason. One of the best things to hold onto in this world is through our families and friends.

“Chemo treatment was the toughest of them all. During the operation I never felt the pain but the chemo effects were beyond description. In between each session my right arm was full of shots and plasters from the required blood tests twice prior to each treatment. Looking pale and week within the week on the course of my treatment while in the midst of my workplace, office colleagues were visible and kind enough to cheer me up.

Acceptance time came when my every single hair starts to fall! I got BALD all over… apart from other effects that I have fought (vomiting, nausea, loose of appetite, heat, tingling of your body, tightening and shrinking of my veins, pains all over as a result of the medicine). Big sigh… why me Lord? I still couldn’t understand but I have to fight. At the back of my mind I can hear the whisper. Carry on, fight, win, pray and pray. In the midst of these trials I felt God’s presence and my faith deepened. You are in safe hands and I will take care of you. It was a total spiritual journey.

During these journeys, I never ran out with a smile until the BIG SMILE came again when my new hair popped up July 2004. I finally booked to be home with my family to proudly present my new hair and new physical appearance. Tears, tears, tears of gratefulness have been pouring. God is always good and is healing me. I can’t thank Him enough for taking care of me and giving me all the provisions.

My spiritual life continues and my journey with God goes on forever! Whoever you are, whenever you are, pray. Pray without ceasing, pray without pretense. Just whisper a prayer. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever.
