Relationship Facts

“Men and women are supposed to be different.” *
I should have known and accepted this fact before my past (and only) relationship crumbled. If I had known this, this would have made a big difference and that relationship might have been salvaged.

I have just started reading the book “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus” by Dr. John Gray with the hope of understanding why people in long-term relationships don’t usually end up together or why some marriages don’t last.

The first chapter points out harsh realities about relationships:

Falling in love is always magical. It feels eternal, as if love will last forever
… But as the magic recedes and daily life takes over, it emerges that men continue to expect women to think and react like men, and women expect men to feel and behave like women.
” *

From those who are able to sustain love long enough to get married, only 50 percent stay married. Out of those who stay together, possibly another 50 percent are not fulfilled. They stay together out of loyalty and obligation or from the fear of starting over. Very few people, indeed, are able to grow in love. Yet, it does happen.” *

Indeed, many people out there want to stay in a relationship not only so that they could avoid the inconvenience of starting over. Many, if not all of us, are hopeful that we stay in a relationship because that “magical feeling” is still there…

By validating and accepting our differences, creative solutions can be discovered whereby we can succeed in getting what we want. And, more important, we can learn how to best love and support the people we care about.
Love is magical, and it can last, if we remember our differences.” *

I’ll be sharing more points from this book that I find important hope you’ll remain with me ’til I finish reading this book ^-^… ’til next time.

Done with the real HP7!

Posted by shiera on Aug-25-2007

Yatta! I’ve just finished reading the real HP7 book early this evening! And I give it 5/5 stars! The best HP series book ever and I hope they would make the best HP movie from this!

I know I couldn’t make a good spoiler on this so I recommend Grace’s and I’ll just continue with recounting the different points of the fake one. ^-^

In the fake one…

  • the Dursleys actually got a little involved in the Wizarding world
  • Ginny played a major part in finding the horcruxes
  • Percy died
  • Grimauld place was their hideout until they found almost all of the horcruxes
  • Narcisa and Draco Malfoy sought the protection of the Order of the Phoenix and both tried to teach Harry occlumency
  • I think the final encounter between Voldemort and Harry happened at the Ministry of Magic
  • The golden snitch served a different but more important purpose

I admit I was such a big fool for believing some parts of it but I like the fake one’s version of how they found and destroyed 2 of the horcruxes. ^-^

Still, I love every event in the real version… my most favorite part is the final battle. I would definitely buy the complete hard-bound Harry Potter series… soon… soon!

Finally, the real HP7 e-book!

Posted by shiera on Aug-22-2007

Months before the official release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, a friend gave me a copy of the supposed book. I was 100% doubtful of its authenticity but I still gave it a go. As I read through it, I was really bothered by how the book focused more on the intimate relationships between Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny. Still, I patiently read the book until I finished it.

Then came the official release of the HP7. I visited a bookstore in Osaka and flipped through the pages of the HP7. Right from the first few lines, I confirmed that the e-book I read was 100% fake. Well, that’s the price I paid for not waiting for and buying the real one.

Days ago, I was given a copy of HP7… arigatou, Ideru-san! It’s the real one, alright… finally! But it’s very funny because as I read through, I could not help but remember the story of the fake one. I even unconsciously expect those events to happen next! I definitely need a lot of memory-rework!

To those who doubt their e-book copy, watch out for these things before you do more damage to your HP memories:

  1. What happened to the Dursleys
Fake: The Dursleys did not get protection from the Order of the Phoenix. Sorry, but I forgot how the Dursleys and Harry parted… what a relief! And it turned out that Dudley’s a powerful wizard, too and he started to discover it when Dumbledore died! Though this might be true in the real one… have to find out real quick. ^-^
  2. How was Harry taken to safety
Fake: It was not that “complicated”. I think he just went straight to Sirius Black’s house alone.
  3. What did Harry, Ron, and Hermione got from Dumbledore
Fake: I forgot what Ron and Hermione got, but Dumbledore gave Harry the pensieve, among other things. And, it was Mr. Weasley who handed those to them.

That’s all for now as I am still in the first few chapters. ;)
