In our dialect, Bisaya, we still use some Spanish words. Sadly, it’s slowly being forgotten and replaced by English.
Now that I am in a Spanish-speaking country, those Spanish words come in handy especially counting words! I can’t imagine how I would understand the taxi drivers if I don’t know their counting numbers. It would be frustrating on both sides. Maybe if given a year to stay here, I will be able to speak Spanish!
Anyway, it’s funny I get the feeling of speaking Japanese every time I’m in a country with majority of the people not speaking English.
