Who says I don’t miss the sunny days?

I’ve already made peace with the fact that the weather here doesn’t to turn into something like the early autumn in Japan. It was so sunny and so humid here when I arrived in March that I longed for the rain. My friends told me to wait for November or December. And they were telling the truth! We’ve been getting a lot of heavy rains these past few days, giving us cooler temperature at night. But having a downpour when I am about to go home is a different story. It makes me dream again of taking a Caribbean cruise, then stay a few days at st lucia.

Weather rants aside, I have actually come to like Singapore more and more. Cheaper flights to the Philippines mean I look forward to spending my Christmas with my family, after 3 long years…

Badminton or Pingpong?

Months ago, I’d been playing badminton with colleagues. I am not really a fan of badminton. I prefer to play pingpong, maybe because it’s the first sports that I could really play. I’m far from good, but at least I could hit the ball. That’s why each time I wait for my turn, I often longingly look at the pingpong area. The badminton courts are often full but there’s always a vacant ping pong table. Too bad no one in the groups wants to play pingpong.

That badminton craze in the office stopped since the “regular” players went on business trips. I had been planning to sign up at the nearest sports hall but laziness always gets on the way. Plus, it is hard to convince someone who could regularly play with me. Pingpong groups? Nah, I’m still not ready for that. Most of the groups I’ve found so far are for badminton, anyway.

That Christmas Tree

Christmas starts very early in the Philippines that the only mall in Iligan City have already put up their huge Christmas tree when I came home last October. It’s in the center of that mall. It’s not as grand as the ones in gigantic malls in the country but it is still very nice to look at. We still don’t have a Christmas tree at home so Shaynna and I had our photo taken with that tree in the background…

A few more days and it’s December!

Balancing tests

I take the bus daily to and from work. I like taking the bus because I have a higher chance of grabbing a seat than in the trains. But I seem to perform a balancing act each time I get on one. The driver only waits for a passenger to settle down if he/she is old, pregnant, or is accompanying a child. Otherwise, you have to be alert to hold on to something because the driver gets the bus moving as soon as you’ve tapped your EZ-Link card or paid the fare.

More than six months of bus ride experiences made me more alert and better at balancing. But going to work, wearing heels, and carrying a 3-kilogram laptop is a completely different scenario. This morning, I was the only passenger who got on from my stop so the driver took off right after I tapped my card. I spotted a vacant seat at the back, tried to balance as hard as I could but the driver suddenly stopped because of the “red light”. I was almost at the vacant seat but the laptop bag slipped off my shoulder and hit the floor! Another passenger helped me but I was very anxious and afraid of the tendency that I might have to pay $3,000 for my clumsiness. When I arrived at the office, the first thing I did was check on my laptop. I was relieved that it still worked perfectly fine.

Lessons learned:
Take a cab when I am carrying something very valuable.
Or, wear flat shoes even if it doesn’t match what I’m wearing.

It’s autumn so…

It’s November and it’s autumn! That’s why I have been missing Japan a lot lately. I may have not tried out outdoor fireplace because I lived in the city. And it’s pretty obvious that kotatsu is more famous in Japan than fireplaces. But I really miss the cool, crisp air. I miss wearing jackets and scarves. I miss eating ramen. I miss the polite Japanese people. I miss a lot of things! Sometimes I consider going back to Japan should an opportunity present itself. I’ll just keep all my memories in Japan alive by going over my photos. Below is a photo somewhere in Umeda area in Osaka. And if I do have an opportunity to go back in Japan, I would still choose to live in Osaka…

Shaynna and Baby K

My father left us more than a year ago. It is still as painful as if it happened yesterday. I know that my mother is suffering the most, but the two children at home make her burden a lot lighter. It gets so noisy most of the time but there’s joy. Here are some photos of the two angels at home, my little girl Shaynna and my brother’s daughter, Kiera (Baby K). They do love the camera…

Eyeglasses and eyebags

Have you ever noticed that people who often wear eyeglasses have bigger eyebags? Or is it just because the eyeglasses partly cover the eyebags that the eyebags become very noticeable once the eyeglasses are taken off? I have been wearing eyeglasses since I was 12 years old that I have forgotten if I have always had bigger eyebags or not.

Now that I am close to leaving the sweet sound of being in my late 20′s, I think I need to do some drastic changes to at least slow down the aging process. It is time to try applying eye cream. Though I hate to admit it, my eyebags really appear big. It is definitely the time to try getting facials. It is definitely high time I get more beauty rest. Do forgive me. Perhaps this is a part of getting-near-the-thirties anxiety.
