Sukang pinakurat atbp…

Our orders from that Filipino store in Tokyo arrived this afternoon.  Just a glimpse of what I bought:

Yes, I also got a bottle of Sukang Pinakurat from Iligan City!

I guess I’ll be having canned goods feast in the next few days. :D

Memories that are nothing yet mean everything.

- taken from “S Diary”
“S Diary” is a Korean film about a woman who decides to interrogate her past lovers about why their relationships failed. However, their answers hurt her so much that provoked her to get back at them. Her revenge went out well but it didn’t ease her heartaches. The movie ended with her becoming an author of the book entitled “Memories that are nothing yet mean everything”. It ended with her still in search of what love really means.

In the movie, it seemed that her ex-lovers were just toying with her but they actually cared for her at first.   It just didn’t work out well.  Her first love decided to pursue priesthood, the second one married another for financial stability, and the third one is an irresponsible, two-timing mama’s boy.  Is she just so unlucky in love, or is true love really hard to find?

Am I really getting old?

The first video game console that I’ve ever played with was an Atari ST. I can still remember the petty fights with my younger brother due to game preferences. Then our parents bought us a Nintendo Family Computer. As expected, my brother was superior and I always end up as an underdog. So he often got to choose the kind of game. When the PlayStation 1 was released, our father brought home one, my brother hogged it all. I didn’t even get to hold the joystick once. At that time, I was into playing PC games such as The Sims and Caesar II.  The playstation 3 has been released and I don’t have a single idea what kind of games I could play with it. Nor am I interested. Is this a sign of aging? I hope not… :D

We will always look for something Pinoy

Pay day is almost here. My friends and I are really excited about placing our second batch of orders to that Filipino store in Tokyo. This time, we are gonna buy lots of canned and bottled products from the Philippines. Of course, large bottles of soy sauce and vinegar are necessities to cook the real Filipino taste of adobo. We will also get tons of the ever famous sinigang mix. I will definitely get packs of my favorite junk foods. I think one of my friend is going to buy some weight loss pills. That Filipino store also sell whitening products!

It’s everywhere…

I frequently keep myself updated with what’s going on in the Philippines. Here’s what has been haunting everyone during this terrible economic slowdown:

Thousands of people are becoming jobless. Many Filipinos here in Japan are being sent back to the Philippines. Some of them are my acquaintances. We might be doing small home-based projects now, but we’re constantly in the “danger zone”…

Who said I can’t find longganisa here?

I just want to share what I had for dinner…

Yes, an all-time Filipino favorite and my most prized food bought from a Filipino store in Tokyo: spicy longganisa!  Because of this store, I’m pretty sure I will have a hard time controlling my appetite. :D

Friday Quote #7

I’m currently loaded with work right now so, I might as well feature these quotes:

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

- Confucius (BC 551-BC 479).

“It is quite possible to work without results, but never will there be results without work.”

Cerebral Palsy

I always watch documentaries from a Philippine TV channel. Most of the time, they feature children suffering from serious illnesses such as cerebral palsy.

Cerebral Palsy is an umbrella term for a group of disorders affecting body movement, balance, and posture. Loosely translated, it means “brain paralysis.” Cerebral Palsy is caused by damage to the motor control centers of the developing brain and can occur during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood.

There are two problems that can cause cerebral palsy:

  • failure of the brain to develop properly
  • neurological damage to the child’s developing brain

There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but various forms of therapy can help a person with the disorder to function and live more effectively. My heart always go out to people who are suffering from cerebral palsy. Above all, I admire those who still face life with optimism and those people who lovingly support them.

Oak and Wine

I only drink little amount of red wine especilly when I’m having a hard time sleeping. And sometimes, I get interested in the process of making wine. I do love grape vineyards, after all! I actually dream of having one.

I have just learned that wine barrels are made from Oak trees because of the oak’s porous nature. An oak barrel allows some levels of evaporation and oxygenation to occur in wine but typically not at levels that would cause oxidation or spoilage of the wine. I was actually surprised to find out that the interaction between the wine and the phenols within the wood produces vanilla type flavors!  I had always thought that the sweetness of wine is due to the sugar mixed in the wine, but it’s just another effect of the chemical properties of the oak!

And it took me more than two decades to read about this…

A very early payday saved this blog

I have to pay this blog’s host every 6 months. The last payment I made was scheduled last week, January 12. However, on that day, I did not have enough funds in my PayPal. I was very sure that my host would close down my blog. So I backed up everything and was feeling a little bit gloomy. I did not want to lose this blog. I don’t have a credit card and it was already too late to transfer funds from my Japanese Bank account to my PayPal.

Two days after the payment schedule, my blog was still alive! When I checked my email, I received a notification about PayU2Blog sending their payment 5 days earlier! And it was on the same day when I needed funds the most.  It’s the earliest payday PayU2Blog has ever had. Coincidence? I consider it as a miracle. ;)
