Thursday Thirteen #9

Thank you to those who remembered and greeted. Thank you also to those who are still going to do so. ^^
This day made me recall how great my birthdays were 2 decades ago. It’s really amazing how little things could make a child happy. I wish I could be like a child again.
Here are the reasons why I loved celebrating my birthdays as a child:
1.) Wake up at the birthday songs being played.
2.) My favorite birthday song was (and still is) a Tagalog one, and sung by children.
3.) Hearing my mother bustling in the kitchen preparing the “birthday breakfast”. I usually don’t eat breakfast because I often woke up late. But on my birthdays, I woke up early.
3.) Being absent from class. I didn’t usually go to school on my special day.
4.) Take a bath without much nagging from my mother. I hated taking an early bath because the water was cold and we didn’t (and still don’t) have a water heater.
5.) Wearing my favorite dress, the newest if there’s one.
6.) The chance to wear my shoes! I went into a public school from 1st-6th grade where wearing shoes was not mandatory. So I went to school wearing just sandals.
7.) Going to the city! We’re only about 45 minutes away from Iligan City but my parents rarely took us with them. So, it’s a big treat!
8.) Going to church, light candles, and say my birthday prayer (and wishes!).
9.) Being treated to foods that I fancied (ice cream, chocolates, cotton candy, pop corn, etc).
10.) Dropping by a bakeshop to buy a small birthday cake.
11.) The simple birthday dinner with everyone in the family present.
12.) Blowing candles.
13.) Taking pictures! I’ve always loved picture taking and so does my family.
