Let There Be Peace
For decades, my family’s been living in Lanao del Norte in Mindanao. Mindanao is very beautiful and we love living there, if not for the constant red alerts.
Yesterday, civilians from our neighboring towns were once again mandated to evacuate due to an impending rebel attack. Sadly, incidents like this have been going on for decades. A huge percentage of poverty-stricken Filipinos are located in the war-torn Mindanao. Obviously, these wars scare away investors, hindering the progress of many places in Mindanao.
The cause of these wars? It is said that our brothers from some separatist groups demanded the formation of an independent Moro Islamic state in Mindanao. Obviously, the Philippine government declined this demand.
Many of those separatists might still have noble intentions for such demand, but what if they are just being taken advantage of by some leaders for their own selfish goals? Rumor has it that the group recruits anyone who’s willing regardless of their ethnicity or religion. Who wouldn’t be tempted to join in exchange for a sack of rice a month and meager compensation? Better that than being jobless at all.
Poverty causes war. But war causes poverty. Wouldn’t it be better if we just fight poverty but not with war? Can’t we just live in harmony? After all, we’re in one nation, we’re all Filipinos.
This seems like an impossible feat but I’m still praying for all these conflicts to stop.
Let there be peace in Mindanao…
Let there be peace in the whole world…

A great percentage of resources (natural or otherwise) in the Philippines is from Mindanao, and yet progress is concentrated in Manila, Luzon and outside Mindanao, while people in mindanao are starving and war stricken! If Mindanao will become a fully independent Region, separate from Luzon and Visayas, and hopefully, with a leader who is not corrupt and no ties to terrorism, then most probably Mindanao will reach progress and peace… But then again, it still goes down to having a NON-Corrupt NON-terrorist LEADER!

sana nga maging peaceful na lahat… but.. but… it will only be possible if the rebel groups of mindanao will surrender their political goals and their guns too.
cnu ba talaga ang makikinabang kung ihihiwalay ang mindanao sa pilipinas? ang mga taga mindanao ba o ang lider lang nila? hmmm… a question without an answer.. w’ll c t’ll it happens.

@kljs
But with the bigger nations aiming to get bigger and more powerful, peace would be very hard to attain. All we can do now is hope and pray that everyone remains humane…
@joker

@jessie

Unfair budget allocation is not the only problem. Many government leaders in Mindanao are also corrupt and because media is not very active in Mindanao, corruption there is often overlooked. And yes, I agree with you, the progress of dependent or independent Mindanao depends on the leader. But decent leaders are hard to find nowadays. And I definitely don’t want a terrorist (or with ties to the terrorists) as a leader!
@Sunjun
Thank you. I’m really worried about my family. It is said that MILF has now more than 3,000 members, in our province alone.
Nope, I’m not donating it. I don’t completely trust the government anymore or some of the NGOs. hehe
I’m saving up my PPP income to buy MP3 player and my own domain. hehe
@Peejay
Sana nga there’ll be peace. In my opinion, I don’t want Mindanao separated from the Philippines. If that happens, Philippines won’t be Philippines anymore. Plus, how can we trust those leaders with the news/rumors going around that they have contacts with terrorist groups?

Moros should be off to have their own independent state. Afterall, in our country’s situation, Christians can’t co-exist with Muslims.
I’d prefer a Bangsamoro Nation so that all Muslims should be repatriated there. (So that there would be no more Abus, and MILFs + MNLFs b*tch*ng within the country.)
Government should really heed with this call of seccesion.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article here Be Peace : Bisdak Babbles, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
