The Search is Over

I usually do a lot of research before buying something, especially electronic gadgets. I am not really into famous brands. I just want to get what I’m paying for or if possible, more than what I’m paying for. So, I visit every store to find out where to get the best bargain, which is undeniably tiring. Thankfully, websites such as Save Buckets could let you compare prices in just a few clicks! In a single product search, it could even produce thousands of search results!

Thursday Thirteen #3

Aside from web mails and blogs, here’s a list of other websites that I often visit:

1.) Like many of the internet surfers, I am very dependent on Google. I have even set it as my homepage, both at home and in the office.

2.) If I’m sure that Google would just give me a link to Wikipedia, I immediately go to this wonderful online information bank.

3.) To keep me updated on what’s happening in our dear country, I read the Philippine Daily Inquirer everyday. This website has the capacity of raising my blood pressure and ruining my day, especially those politics-related articles.

4.) For entertainment updates, I always visit the Philippine Entertainment Portal. Have I mentioned before that I dreamed of becoming an Interior Designer? So, in PEP, my favorite section is the Celeb Life/Homes.

I simultaneously access these weather websites and these often give different information. If there’s a big difference between the forecasts, I’d end up checking the forecast from my cellphone, the most accurate of all.
5.) Yahoo News – Weather
6.) Weather City
7.) BBC Weather Centre

8.) Kansai Scene Magazine orients me more on Kansai (Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area). This cool website often features beautiful places and interesting events around Kansai. Its Classifieds section is the best place to buy and sell stuffs. I also often check out the Friendship section. The ads there always crack me up. Wanna know why? Go check it out.

9.) Hyperdia-Timetable is the best website to gather information on train schedule and fare. All you have to do is input the origin and destination names of the station and you’d get at most five route suggestions, including the train fare! But inputting the station names could be tricky at times. (e.g., “Seishin-Chuo” should be inputted as “seishinchuo”)

For spiritual and inspirational nourishments, I seek refuge in:
10.) BoSanchez.ph
11.) Kerygma Family
Bo Sanchez is one of my favorite evangelists so I always listen to his audio teachings.

Since I still need to hone my Nihongo skills, I couldn’t just watch TV news. The following English websites keep me aware of what’s happening in Japan:
12.) Mainichi Daily News

13.) Last but not the least – Youtube! I’m a subscriber of HappySlip, David Choi Music and byronfgarcia Channel.

So there you go… I’m really pretty busy online. ^-^

Amazing Minis

It seems like my titles are getting cheesier… Anyway, I just would like to show you these pictures of miniatures by National. They have this exhibit in the building that I pass through on my way home.
Since there’s a tower in the middle, I assumed that this is the miniature of a place in Tokyo where the Tokyo Tower is located. Mmmm… I’m not really sure…

Desktop Showcase

Another fun tag! This “what’s on my desktop” tag came from Imagica.
To those who are not really into anime, that’s Naruto. He is one of my top-3 anime idols. Naruto of Naruto, Luffy of One Piece and Ichigo of Bleach take turns in gracing my desktop.

The right side is usually for the commonly-used applications – these are placed in folders, grouped according to their functionalities. While the left-side is for the commonly-accessed folders and files. My desktop’s usually cluttered. Good thing I recently did my weekly cleanup.

I’m not specifically tagging anyone. But if you’d like to show off your desktop, I’d be your first spectator!

A Battle and A Spiritual Journey

I was tagged by Rolando to post something about Breast Cancer Awareness last month. I couldn’t let this opportunity pass and invited a wonderful lady to share her story as a breast cancer survivor.

Ms. Enme Malanog is an aunt of two close friends, so I have heard so much about her. I only knew that she had breast cancer and didn’t know the whole story until I read what she sent me. As I read through, I was deeply touched by her courage, by her faith, by her life. I only placed here portions of what she wrote, but I encourage you to be touched and be inspired like me. Read her complete story HERE.

I was 46 then, successful in my career in a very prestigious, international (Swiss) company in Makati, surrounded with“big bosses with big hearts”and always with a plate filled with the daily routine assignments in a corporate set up. I have all the benefits you wish to have. HR team who kept on bugging me for our Annual Medical check up and yet passed on to my deaf ears until the time I was posted and moved on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to join our SGS Cambodia Liaison Office way back 2000.

Time flies! I enjoyed my job in Phnom Penh, the only place on earth with 28 holidays a year! It was September 24th 2003 – we traveled all the way to Vietnam for a long weekend Pchum Ben holiday. I had my confirmed appointment the next day at FV (Franco-Vietnamese) Hospital with Dr. Stephane Lager an OB Gyne, after I felt a lump on my left breast July that same year wherein months before I had two prolonged cough which was just ignored, frequent very disturbing numbness on my right arm which I thought an effect of daily long usage of my desktop.

That lump was later diagnosed as an Invasive Ductile Carcinoma (early stage II Breast Cancer).

The news went around globally to relatives and friends. E-mails kept pouring, sharing words of encouragements. Brigades of the most powerful prayers continue from grieving friends and family members who was shocked about my situation. Their words of comfort were never more appropriate than before. A moment to remember that when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk, we are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Remember each of us is a vital thread in other person’s tapestry, our lives are woven together for a reason. One of the best things to hold onto in this world is through our families and friends.

“Chemo treatment was the toughest of them all. During the operation I never felt the pain but the chemo effects were beyond description. In between each session my right arm was full of shots and plasters from the required blood tests twice prior to each treatment. Looking pale and week within the week on the course of my treatment while in the midst of my workplace, office colleagues were visible and kind enough to cheer me up.

Acceptance time came when my every single hair starts to fall! I got BALD all over… apart from other effects that I have fought (vomiting, nausea, loose of appetite, heat, tingling of your body, tightening and shrinking of my veins, pains all over as a result of the medicine). Big sigh… why me Lord? I still couldn’t understand but I have to fight. At the back of my mind I can hear the whisper. Carry on, fight, win, pray and pray. In the midst of these trials I felt God’s presence and my faith deepened. You are in safe hands and I will take care of you. It was a total spiritual journey.

During these journeys, I never ran out with a smile until the BIG SMILE came again when my new hair popped up July 2004. I finally booked to be home with my family to proudly present my new hair and new physical appearance. Tears, tears, tears of gratefulness have been pouring. God is always good and is healing me. I can’t thank Him enough for taking care of me and giving me all the provisions.

My spiritual life continues and my journey with God goes on forever! Whoever you are, whenever you are, pray. Pray without ceasing, pray without pretense. Just whisper a prayer. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever.

PhotoHunt: Hot

If you’re planning to visit Osaka, don’t do it at the peak of summer. It’s really hot! I think hotter than summer in the Philippines.

Thank you, Yoohoopips!

I was just fresh out of college when I first came to Japan. First trip abroad – I was really ecstatic. Didn’t thought about how horrible homesickness could be. But I was so blessed to share my adventure with Yohoopips. At least, in them, I found a home in Japan.

Got this from Florence:

Didn’t really know how we ended up calling ourselves Yoohoopips. I think Ting suggested it. ^-^

Thursday Thirteen #2

After a week at the new office, I…
1.) finally saw a few people eating during work hours.
2.) saw someone napping at lunch break and he’s got a pillow
3.)it feels good when some greet me back when I say “ohayou gozaimasu” (good morning)
4.) it feels good each time I hear some officemates say “otsukaresama desu” (Thanks for your effort) when I leave the office.
5.) learned more Japanese terms in one week than the last year
6.) only accessed news sites at lunch time: Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mainichi Daily, and Japan Times
7.) accessed a single blog but it was a technical blog – totally work-related ^-^
8.) often stay long at the ladies’ toilet and bask at the magnificent Osaka castle and its park
9.) could now sleep earlier at 12:00-1:00AM. Before, it was impossible to sleep earlier than 2:00AM
10.) finally appreciated the trains’ women-only car
11.) got used to wearing my 2-inch high-heeled shoes
12.) been using the “wash-you-know-what” feature of the toilet seat. Before, I only tried using it once because it felt really weird
13.) devised another blogging technique – write at the office, type at home

Notetaking: The Primitive Way

No blogging at work means more sleepy moments. So, to keep me awake, I decided to keep my hands moving – by writing down notes! Technical notes belongs to the computer… but writing down “high-priority” Japanese terms could be fun at times. I only wrote in Hiragana because Kanji characters are still way too complex for me.

As I was tagged by Rolando in a “Handwriting meme”, I’ll show you a portion of my cheat sheet:

Less usage of pens and notebooks had definitely degraded my penmanship. Plus, my hand hurts after only a few scrawls!
I hope to see some friends’ handwriting, so I’m tagging Imagica, Rollchan, Erra, and Amor.
