Dizzy… then dizzier

I woke up with a splitting headache. But I must, at all cost, not take another day off. I’ve been sick and I had many absences last month so I dragged my self out of my futon. Since, as usual, I am running late, my “morning jogging to the office” made me to temporarily ignore my dizziness but once I settled in my desk I became even dizzier. Why? Because the person sitting next to me smells weird! Probably he didn’t take a bath this morning. That, I could barely tolerate… but mixed with strong cigarette smell? It really infuriates me why won’t they just let the cigarette smell go away before going back to their seat! Seems like I’m gonna drop unconscious any moment now…

July Birthday Bash

It’s Monday and it’s non-working day! yehey! Our boss held yet another party in honor of the July birthday celebrants in the company. Very few people showed up but it was another whole afternoon of eating, talking, and watching TV. And for most of the attendees, a fun-filled, and tension-packed card game.

Ooopppsss… before the day ended, I had yet another very embarassing experience: I was supposed to return something to a friend and I ended up knocking on the wrong door… actually, it’s a completely different building! The occupant might have been scared and I might have appeared to her/him as another scary, crazy, gaijin because he/she didn’t attempt to even slightly open the door. If I hadn’t left after two door bells, I hate and I’m scared to think about it… what if the occupant called the police and I have been dragged out of the building and questioned for stalking!

A Date with Harry Potter

I woke up at around 11:30 this morning and after taking a look outside, the typhoon might have decided not to pass by Osaka after all! The sky’s not clear but it’s hot outside. At least I won’t be wet for our date with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Akane-san and I agreed to watch Pirates of the Carribean 3, but two months after it was first shown, a huge crowd was still lining up! So we decided to watch Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix instead.

How was it? Mmmmm… if not for the encounter between Dumbledore and Voldemort, I would have concluded that the film is a big disappointment. Lots of details have been changed or omitted, many parts are not clear, and some moments are quite boring. You could find the differences of the plot between the book and the film in Wikipedia. I would have loved to see more of Tonks in the movie because I really find her cool, but she only appeared for about three times! Furthermore, I commend Evanna Lynch for excellently portraying the role Luna Lovegood. All in all, no matter how unsatisfied I was, I am still looking forward to the next Harry Potter movie. ^-^

The enjoyable part of the day was the long chat with Akane-san before the movie. We got to talk about almost anything. Everyone… meet Akane-san:

Gloomy Osaka

Gloomy Osaka as it awaits the storm:

.

A while ago, I was one of those people walking and frantically trying to control my umbrella from being blown away. The typhoon’s almost here and there are still many people, even children, roaming around… it might not be bad after all. I guess I’m being overly paranoid.

Tropical Cyclone Scare

I am really worried about the tropical cyclone that’s in Japan right now.. and heading towards Osaka.

The information from Japan Meteorological Agency says that the maximum wind speed could be more than 50 knots!

* 1KT(knot) = 1.852 km/h = 0.5144 m/s

I don’t know much about typhoon signals classification in the Philippines, where signal #1 indicating the least threat… I wonder to which signal level the approaching typhoon would belong to? If it’s only at signal #2… then I guess there’s nothing to worry about? If I hadn’t attended college in Cebu then I wouldn’t have experienced a typhoon stronger than signal #1.

Gosh… I think I am being too paranoid… am I?

An Angel’s Comforting Words

Jeanjean (Titi Victor’s daughter): Shay, asa naman si Tatey? (Shay, where’s Tatey?)
Shaynna: Naa sa heaven… si Nanay Paz pud, si Lolo Yoyo, ug si Morlock… (He’s in heaven together with Ate Paz, Yoyo, and Morlock)

Simple, innocent words from my 2-year old little angel… but very comforting for us adults who are now grieving over the loss of someone dear.

* Shaynna calls Titi Victor as Tatey (Tatay Titi).

Nanay Paz – my father’s younger sister who passed away February last year
Lolo Yoyo – my mother’s younger brother who passed away May last year

Morlock – our dog who also passed away early this year

Farewell Titi Victor

My siblings and cousins call him Titi Victor. “Titi” in Bol-anon (Bohol dialect) means uncle. I mentioned him in an entry before, one of those two uncles who loved booze. When I called home, I was greeted by the very sad news that he passed away this afternoon. This deeply saddens me but at the same time accepting that this is probably for the best. He had been suffering lots of illnesses for years already and it’s obvious that he’s just hiding his suffering from everyone… at least now, he could truly rest.

Despite his being a drunkard, I admit these two booze-lover uncles are my favorites. Titi Victor taught me a lot and I used to hang out in their place when I was younger. He only finished high school but he’s dexterous and very creative. He could be a good carpenter, a good electrician, and an excellent artist. He’d been doing lots of art stuff to earn money and more than a year ago, he asked me to post in the internet some of the home decorations he created… but I was not able to do that. I looked through the CDs I brought but none of them contained the images of those decorations… if I had only done what he asked me to do, I’m pretty sure that would have made a huge difference. There are lots of things that I would have, I should, I could have done but we could not turn back time.

To Titi Victor: despite your shortcomings, you had been a wonderful uncle to me, to us… you had made a big impact in my life, in our lives more than you’d ever known. We love you and we’re gonna truly miss you!

Gotta try this

I am now starting to get crazy over the series Hana Kimi or Hanazakarino Kimitachihe, in both Japanese and Taiwanese versions. Anyways, I am not going to start promoting this series, but the lead actress, Ella Chen, is very cool especially her hairstyle. I had never ever worn such a very short haircut and I think I would like to try it! But before that… I guess I’d have to gather my confidence and charm (ahem) to be able to “carry” this hair style. Probably I’d also need lots of facial spa and tons of whitening stuff he he….

But I suppose it all comes down to how we look at ourselves, huh? You bet… I’m definitely gonna post my picture with a much much shorter hairstyle… soon… ^-^

I want to go to Davao

Why? According to PEP and Mindanews, Josh Hartnett will be in Davao for the shooting of the film I Come With the Rain! Lucky Davaoenos… especially those who live close to Mt. Diwalwal. ^-^

Anyways, I am just very excited and glad because this just proves that not every place in Mindanao is in turmoil. So everyone in Mindanao… please behave. Mindanao is rich and beautiful… indeed, it is The Land of Promise. Hand in hand, let’s show the world Mindanao’s magnificence. Who knows, one day Mel Gibson might decide to shoot a film in Iligan City?

Sayonara Gmail & Y!mail

I could easily get over my boredom because I could access Yahoo mail and Gmail in the office, among other things. But our luck finally ran out and my worst fear (he he) finally came true… Gmail and Yahoo Mail are now blocked! Okay, I have no right to rant about this because I should focus on my work like the Japanese… and above all, I ought to be accessing websites that are work-related ONLY.

I just hope they won’t block blogspot and wordpress…

Sumimasen

Me: singing while riding my bike near the train station
Japanese Lady:
sumimasen…
Me:
(stopped) hai
Japanese Lady:
blah blah blah … Minami Guchi… blah blah blah eki…
Me:
(seems like she’s looking for an exit in the station … oh my… I forgot what Minami means. I only remember nishi and higashi guchi…)

Confusion must have been written all over my face because…

Japanese Lady: blah blah blah… shinkansen… blah blah blah
Me:
ahh… shinkansen desu ka? sono kaidan ni (what’s go up again?) nobotte …. (what’s the word for go out? crapmy memory’s not cooperating again. I had no choice but to use hand signals. So I just tried my best to draw imaginary arrows while pointing at the stairs)?
Japanese Lady:arigatou gozaimashita. ki o tsukete ne.

Why me? Poor lady… I do hope she did not get lost. It’s the first time a Japanese asked me for directions. I must really add more vocabulary to my Nihongo for circumstances like this…
(yeah yeah yeah… I said this a thousandth times already)
————————
1. sumimasen – excuse me
2. Minami Guchi – south exit
3. eki – station
4. nishi guchi – west exit
5. higashi guchi – east exit
6. asoko kaidan ni nobotte – go up through that stairs (this is what I meant)
7. arigatou gozaimashita – thank you very much
8. ki o tsukete ne – take care
